Beethoven Mass in C; Schubert Stabat Mater D175; Mendelssohn Hear My Prayer

With the Sussex Concert Orchestra

Beethoven’s beautiful and heartfelt Mass in C is less well-known than the larger Missa Solemnis, but nevertheless illustrates Beethoven’s originality and genius, combining classical formal elements with romantic expressivity.  Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer is one of his most popular and well-known works, containing the famous solo O for the Wings of a Dove, while Schubert’s Stabat Mater in G minor (D 175) is a small gem which deserves to be more widely known.
